Illegal mangrove clearance on Moso

A sacred site on Moso customary land called Emotu has been desecrated.

The Council of Chiefs from Sunae village on Moso has reported their outrage and disgust about the environmental destruction and desecration on the island. They are annoyed that the Government ignored due diligence even though repeated cautions have been lodged by both rightful traditional owners and their legal counsels.

Great start for the Vanuatu Open Water Swim series 2012

The Vanuatu Open Water Swim series are currently organized for the second time by the professional local group Event Logic, with the full support of the Vanuatu Tourism Office (VTO). Less than 2 weeks after having organized the first Port-Vila Multiport event, Mr. Troy Spann and his dedicated team successfully ran today the Port-Vila series of the Open Water Swim 2012.

Zion Theater to stage major appearance on Saturday

Red Cross improves emergency access to clean water

Red Cross team-members last week trained in a water purification system that could help save the lives of thousands during disaster.
The portable Nomads system, valued at US$30,000 was donated by Australian Red Cross ad can produce up to 75,000 litres of purified water each day using local river water. The technology is the first of its kind in Vanuatu.

Lands Minister must appear in Supreme Court 3 July

After failing to appear in the Magistrates’ Court on June 1 as requested, and then again on 19 June as also requested by those charged, Stephen Kalsakau and his brother, Yoan Kalsakau, together with Tamau Trading Limited, are committed to appear in the Supreme Court on July 3.

Magistrate Stephen Felix, in his order, states that having considered all the materials presented to him his court confirms there is a prima facie case of misappropriation to be answered by all the parties.

The matter will be heard in the Dumbea Supreme Court on July 3.

TVL launches Mobile Internet

Early on Wednesday 20 June, when people started walking through the main streets of Port Vila, they discovered messages on the ground such as “Jekem email blong yu naoia”.

Every 30 meters or so you could read one of the messages that Telecom Vanuatu Limited (TVL) had chosen to promote its new Mobile Internet service.
“We, TVL, are proud to announce the launch of our new Mobile Internet service, everybody was asking for it and it has finally arrived!” said Gerome Guicherd, Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer.

PM Kilman speaks for MSG at Rio+20

The Vanuatu Prime Minister Sato Kilman,who stood in for Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Chairman, Fiji’s Prime Minister Commodore Bainimarama, at the Rio+20 Conference in Brazil, used the opportunity to promote the MSG’s declaration on Environment and Climate, recently signed by MSG Leaders in Fiji.

He said the declaration demonstrates the MSG Group‘s commitment to fighting climate change, whose impacts are already being felt by communities in the MSG countries.
