Positive impact of ACP-EU meeting

Brisbane Diary

I devote this diary to two particular issues I feel strongly about this week. They are in connection to the positive feedbacks that have transpired from the fine effort by the country to host its biggest ever international meeting since 1980. I end with a brief word on the safety of school children on the road, following the tragic death of that schoolgirl at Teouma on the eve of the international meeting.

What children need for their development - aged from two to three years

SAVE THE CHILDREN

Most two year olds
start to calm down as they approach three and learn new skills. They start to talk a lot and verbally express their needs, have lots of energy and enjoy noise. They develop definite likes and dislikes with food, clothes, toys and just about everything else! Some two year olds can get a bit bossy or jealous and many don’t like change
You can help build their self esteem by:

• Giving lots of praise when they do something well.
• Listening to what they are saying and trying to answer all their questions (there will be many).

Koncerners captivate the crowd at festival in New Caledonia

The Koncerners music group from Wan Smolbag Youth Centre visited New Caledonia last month for their first overseas tour.

They performed twice at the Mata Pila Tegne Festival in Touho (Tuo), and once at a local festival in Puébo, both situated in the Northern Province of New Caledonia.
The group were warmly welcomed into the community by the local Kanaky people and other festival performers from around New Caledonia as well as from Reunion.  The most challenging, albeit somewhat entertaining, part of the experience was trying to speak French with the locals.

Air Vanuatu resumes Santo international flights

Air Vanuatu’s Chief Executive Officer, Joseph Laloyer, has announced the airline’s Boeing 737 international flight to Santo will resume this Sunday, 24 June.
The resumption follows the preliminary report of an Obstacles Limitation Surface Survey conducted over the last few days by an Aviation Specialist Surveyor, the data from which will allow Air Vanuatu to review its operational limitations for the Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Widow’s Support Group to be launched in Port Vila

Widows around Vanuatu will for the first time be officially recognized as an effort was finally made to set up Vanuatu Widow’s Support Group which would be launched on the 23rd of this month.
Vanuatu Human Rights Activist and promoter of UN Conventions, Jenny Ligo, who is also an International US Woman of Courage Awardee for 2011 confirms this as the world celebrates the International Widow’s Day on the 23rd of June every year.

Boat found without 8 passengers

The banana boat that capsized in rough seas between Emae and Matasso last week was found floating upside down near Tongoa but without its eight passengers.
The banana boat was brought back to Port Vila on the RVS Tukoro.
The RVS Tukoro and the search and rescue party on board was alerted by a surveillance aircraft that spotted the banana boat just off Tongoa Island miles away from where it was capsized-near Matasso.
The RVS Tukoro went to the spot and found the banana boat floating upside down but without any sign of the eight passengers who held on to the boat on the day it capsized.
