Airports Vanuatu Limited clears air on Union issues

Airports Vanuatu Limited (AVL) through a statement stated that it has been observing with interest, news items regarding Vanuatu National Workers Union issues and notice of industrial action and the company name AVL made mentioned on numerous occasions by VBTC on radio and TV and Daily Post Issue number 3568 of Wednesday 6th June 2012.
AVL said one interesting point is why the company was not contacted, so the people of this country are given the opportunity to have two sides of the story.

Your money will be paid to your beneficiaries; that is the person or persons whom you nominated on your nominee form, which you completed together with your application to become a member of the Fund.

17 trainees graduate at Torgil RTC

The Torgil RTC on East Ambae has recently celebrated the graduation of its 17 Building Construction trainees on 31st May 2012.
The class comprising 17 trainees graduated with High Vocational Certificate 1 in Building Construction, Joinery, Business Creation and Planning after undertaking 2 years and 4 months of theory and practical training.

Sanma reaps five tourism products through TVET program

Sanma Province has achieved another milestone for the tourism industry when five existing products were launched Thursday this week into a more professional service.
These tourism ventures include Millennium Cave Tours, Nanda Blue Hole Tour, Towoc Restaurant and Bungalows, Lonnoc Seafront Bungalows and the little paradise of Port Olry Restaurant. Prominent guest were invited to the launching were, Representative from the Aus Aid, Director for Youth and Sports, Air Vanuatu Representative, Director for Education Services and stalk holders and tour operators around Luganville.

Buried somewhere beneath the rubbles of the earthquake of globalisation and our numerous development challenges is a sense of national pride – that feeling that brought Vanuatu to statehood on July 30th, 1980.
What is this ‘national pride’? You may have your own interpretation, but for the purpose of this discussion, it is that feeling of willpower, determination and courage when you know that you can do things on your own (with the support of other helpful internal and external friends) and get a sense of satisfaction out of what you achieve.

Pro Medical conducts first aid training with TVET support

The people from the Village of Funaspef close to the Millennium Cave on Santo, through the ongoing support provided by the TVET program, were able to go through a training conducted by the Pro Medical on first aid on May 14-18.
Fifteen Tour guides attended the training and they are currently employed by the Millennium Cave Tour.
This training was conducted on site with a lot of demonstration on basic first aid and also Water search and rescue. The training was the first of its kind to be conducted at the Funaspef Village.

Smiles from Brussels

Despite the darkness there were smiles all round when an ACP delegation from Brussels touched down at Port Vila International Airport at 7.10 Thursday night.

Prevention better than cure

Second year students from Vanuatu College of Nursing Education (VCNE) promoted the primary health care program throughout Port Vila during yesterday.
Organized in three groups, one group stationed themselves between the Seaview Restaurant and the main market house yesterday and provided free high blood pressure checks to the general members of the public.

Within few minutes after their set up, the general members of the public cued up to have free high blood pressure checks over the three hour period.

Pacific-EU business forum takes place in Port Vila

A first ever Pacific – European Union (EU) business forum organized in collaboration with PIPSO (Pacific Islands Private Sector Organization) and the Government of the Republic of Vanuatu, with the support of the ACP Business Climate facility (BizClim) is to take place in Port Vila on the 11-12 June. The forum will provide opportunities for entrepreneurs from both regions to discuss and forge partnerships and make their views known.
