Digicel Vanuatu Cricket Scorer’s Seminar

On Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th June, 2012, Vanuatu Cricket conducted a two days Scorer’s Seminar at VASANOC House.

Eight participants attended the two days seminar. The participants were representatives of the clubs in Port Vila’s Men’s, Women’s Cricket League and primary schools.

The objective of the scoring seminar was to teach the participants how to accurately record cricket match scores onto a score sheet.

VCA Development Officer’s Neil Malosu conducted the two days seminar with the help of VCA Development Officer Trevor Langa.

FLNKS rep in Port Vila after travel difficulties

New Caledonia’s FLNKS Political Bureau met on Tuesday 26 June, 2012 and decided to send Mr Victor Tutugoro to the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Secretariat in Port Vila.

Mr Tutugoro’s travel was made at the request of the MSG secretariat, in order to consider the travel difficulties encountered by the ministerial delegations that are meant to visit our country.

The FLNKS Political Bureau reminded that this mission is led to assess the proper implementation of the Noumea Accord on monitoring the process of decolonization under the UN international bodies.

Ohlen Community chief rep thanks expat community

A chief representative of the Ohlen Community, Peter Yamak, has acknowledged the effort of every expatriate in Port Vila who contributed to helping the families of the two victims in the gas explosion at the Nasama Resort.

The grateful Community chief representative made particular mention of the Fundraising at Club Hippique and is hopeful the good relationship will continue in the future.

Review of Customs Act

The Customs and Inland Revenue Department is undertaking a review of the Customs Act, consistent with model legislation developed by the Oceania Customs Organisation, of which Vanuatu is a member. With the assistance of an Australian technical adviser, a draft Act has been developed. A workshop involving the executive and senior managers of DCIR was conducted last week to allow comments and feedback on the proposed draft.

Civil Status back to normal service

The Civil Status office in Luganville is back to normal service as of Monday this week.

The office was closed more than two months following the issue of a staff working without any salary.

Joe Johnson, Registrar General from the Civil Status in Port Vila confirmed to Daily Post that the staff’s documents are now settled.

Solwe already preparing to host 32nd anniversary

While Luganville Municipality has yet to indicate to the people of Luganville how or where it will host the 32nd independence celebration, Solwe community has already confirmed its preparations towards this nation’s 32nd independence anniversary.

Solwe is planning to organise a one-week celebration.

Preparations are now going on before the community can host the independence celebration. A committee was established already to monitor and supervise the preparations before next month.
