Beach Volleyball needs your help

Beach Volleyball

The Vanuatu Women Beach Volleyball team are only a few steps away from qualifying for the 2012 Olympics Games.
After a long road of economic difficulties to make it to the countries in which they need to compete, the Vanuatu beach volleyball team has hit a potentially fatal stumbling block. To get to their last events, they will need AUD$30,000 to pay for airfares, an amount of cash that the team do not have.

After four consecutive days of hot weather, the sky opened up and consistent rain greeted the players as Japan captain Ema Kuribayashi won her fourth toss in a row, electing to bat first against an experienced PNG line-up.
Japan found the conditions difficult at the start, and coupled with an outstanding spell of bowling from PNG opening bowlers Pauke Siaka and Tanya Ruma, found themselves at 36-1 after 20 overs when play was stopped due to rain.

Re: Prisoners

Dear Editor,

I'm reading on a dozen internet sites how armed Vanuatu police are working around the clock to re-capture 7 escaped prisoners.
So finally, months after yet another gaggle of high risk prisoners escaped and following weeks of robberies and situations where ordinary people have been threatened, an elderly couple has been murdered, a long term resident bashed and a schoolgirl had a knife held to her throat while robbers ransacked her family home the police have been given permission to carry weapons.
 Yippee.

Crime in Port Vila

Dear Editor,

The recent events in Port Vila, including robberies, bashings and murders, is a clear sign of the need for an active law enforcement agency in Vanuatu. Unfortunately it would seem that our local police force is either unable or unwilling to fulfil this role.
Is it any coincidence that the escalation of these events over the past week or so has occurred upon the deportation of AFP officers? I think not. For all their mistakes and failures, I personally believe that the AFP's presence has been good for the safety and well-being of Port Vila residents.
