Taking a look outside the box

Dear Editor,
With the current issue of Clarence Marae’s arrest on hand, the population seemed to have been forced into the discussion of Marae’s arrest, the embarrassment it has caused, and now the deportation of the AFP from Vanuatu.
I wish to take us out of the current issues at hand and look beyond that box.

I believe Marae’s arrest was orchestrated by certain elements high up there. It was orchestrated by people who love to defraud and those who have fallen in love with defrauders or those with criminal background.

Proposed Port Vila Candidate - Vanua'aku Party Proposed Port Vila Candidate - Vanua'aku Party

Dear Editor,

I would like to comment on proposed nomination of Honorable MP Edward Natapei.
Is it possible for the party to propose a new Port Vila Candidate?
I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but we probably already have better qualified & experienced people in the country to take the Party forward.
The proposed candidate has been in the Parliament for decades.

I think the party needs to move on, do more research and bring better candidates who are focused in developing our country. The Vanua'aku Party probably needs better sub-committees as well.

Clarence’s arrest is God’s doing

Dear Editor,

Re: Break-ins attributed to escaped prisoners

Dear Editor,

Every time break-ins and burglaries occur whenever there are prisoners on the run after jail breaks (which is often) many people, including the police, immediately link the two and cast the blame solely in the direction of the prisoners.
It may well be that the events are linked, but when, as was reported Thursday in Daily Post, no food is taken during a robbery at a shop like Traverso's Boucherie one really has to wonder just who are the culprits.

PM should also apologise

Dear Editor,

The PM and the AFP saga continues and the Australia is constantly asked to make an apology for the way PM was treated in Australia.  Whilst the Government is defending its stand on the AFP expulsion, it still claims that the arrest of Marae is nothing to do with AFP expulsion.
No, the arrest of Marae is not a separate thing. PM still does not get it.

He would not have been treated that way in Sydney if it was not for the arrest of Marae, simple as that.

Law and order breakdown

Editorial Opinion

The brutal killing of an elderly and harmless expatriate couple aged in their70s and 80s and assault and robbery by masked intruders of long respected resident Charlie Pierce who has taught at Malapoa College since before independence, has sent shock waves through the expatriate community and many people are reportedly contemplating pulling out of Vanuatu as a direct result of escalating crime.

Re: Vanuatu's Stand on West Papua Questioned

Dear Editor,

I wish late Fr Walter Hyde Lini first Prime Minister of Vanuatu is alive so he can see and read the headline on yesterday’s (17 May 2012) Daily Post or actually see what happened at the airport. This is not what his dreams, and wish for West Papuans are. He in fact said; "Vanuatu is independent, but we are not free until all Pacific countries are free of colonialism”. (Walter Hadye Lini, Statement to representatives of liberation movements, 1980, Port Vila)" The current leaders in the current government have been led away from late Lini's vision and aspirations.

Unity of Purpose: the missing link

InsideViewpoint

The missing link in almost all of our endeavours – be it politics, the bureaucracy or NGOs – seems to be the all-important value of ‘Unity of Purpose’.
One moment the Opposition criticises the government of the day over a certain issue. When it gets into power, it commits the very same sin against which it was critical yesterday.

Paunagisu Health Centre receives ambulance

The Efate MP and Lands Minister, Steven Kalsakau, has handed over a new ambulance vehicle to the Paunagisu Health Center yesterday.
This is the first time that the Paunagisu Health Center on North Efate has been donated an ambulance to service the North Efate areas.
At hand yesterday morning to receive the ambulance from the Lands Minister Kalsakau was the Paunagisu Health Center staff as well as the SHEFA Provincial Government Health staff.
