When the cat’s away, the mice will play

Editorial Opinion

The above expression regarding cat and mice means that when no one in authority is present, those below them can do whatever they like.
Four days ago the Deputy Principal of Malapoa College was senselessly assaulted for no reason by a group of young men at Tebakor.
The Deputy Principal was merely walking with a group of girls and boys who are students of Malapoa College to provide them a sense of security because the same thugs had threatened the girls earlier prompting them to get someone they trusted to walk with them past the trouble makers at Tebakor.

Use of the name Manaro

Dear Editor

Thanks for letting me space to share my constructive views. It is very disgraceful and unrespectable to see someone who always uses the name Manaro when raising his concern inside this paper.

It is not also right to misuse the name Manaro on a kava bar business.
It is against the value of Bali Hai’s vision; it is against the Ambaen chiefs in Port Vila and Luganville as well as the Island.
As either is a secret place for throne for Tagaro, our traditional hero and the heavenly home for the Ambaens when they die.
We respect and uphold Manaro as our cultural heritage.

What a joke selection!

Dear Editor,

Thank you for allowing space for this article.
I read with interest on your issue # 3548, VFF I anoasem faenol OFC Nations Cup Skwad and wish to make the following comment:
1.    Is the number of adviser sincluded in the Squad relevant?
2.    I have a lot of respect for Freddy Vava but I think he should not be included. His performance game between Tafea and Amical when both team draw 1/1 each proved that another player should have been selected.

Why Vanuatu detests neo-colonial attitudes

Brisbane Diary

The current diplomatic hullabaloo between Vanuatu and Australia over what Vanuatu perceives to be ‘over-the-top’ treatment of its top dignitary and head of a sovereign nation passing through Australian soil is nothing new.

Mothers remembered

When you bury a mother you bury a nation.
Jean Jacque Kalnpel, a youth leader from the Mautoa Seventh Day Adventist Church quoted this fitting statement by former head of State Kalkot Mataskelekele at the passing away of his late wife, Hanson Kalkot -a modest educated lady who moved with dignity, respect and ease in the different of circles of society but above all, was an affectionate mother, grandmother and wife leaving loving timeless memoirs with her family and relatives.

Art exhibition opens at National Museum

The first of a series of art exhibitions to promote the work of local artists opened at the National Museum in Port Vila Friday.
The idea for such an exhibit came from the director of the Vanuatu Kaljerol Senta (VKS) housed in the museum, Marcelin Abong who said the exhibition would allow more exposure for the local artists involved.

The other important meeting that is also taking place this week is the University of the South Pacific Council Meeting.

Mr Feleti Teo, the Deputy Secretary General to the PIF Secretariat explained that these two meetings were planned to take place together because most of the leaders who are attending the FEdMM are also required to attend the USP Council meeting which will take place on the 16th and 17th this week.

Deputy tells Ministers not to lose sight of reality

The Deputy Secretary General of the South Pacific Forum Feleti Teo of Tonga has asked the Regional Ministers of Education at their two day meeting at Warwick Le Lagon Hotel yesterday and today “not to lose sight of the reality” that whatever Regional framework or Regional initiative in the education sector, the test of their successes can only be gauged if those Regional initiatives can be translated into practical and tangible benefits at their national level.

That he said is the challenge ahead for the Education Ministers in their deliberations.
