Vanuatu celebrates five years of RSE participation

New Zealand’s Department of Labour has congratulated the Vanuatu Government on reaching its fifth year of participation in New Zealand’s Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) scheme. 

The New Zealand High Commissioner to Vanuatu, Bill Dobbie, will join Vanuatu government, RSE officials and RSE workers in celebrating the anniversary at a function near the Vanuatu Parliament in Port Vila today.

Woman candidate invites Australian visitors to cultural day

A candidate for the Port Vila Constituency, Maryanne Bani has invited Australian visitors to a cultural day to raise awareness about need for resources for the people of rural Vanuatu.

During a rare historical visit to a rural village, Teouma Bush Council welcomed Australian visitors Ms Susan Jarnason and her family in Sydney Australia to share in a day of enjoyable cultural festivities. Chief of the Teouma Council took the opportunity to raise awareness about the concerns and needs of the local community.

Police and schools work together in Port Vila

Tuesday the 18th April 2012 marked an important day for the Vanuatu Police Force Port Vila Crime Prevention Unit and the Central School.

On this day, PC Mark Willie from the Crime Prevention Unit and 31 Year 9 Students took the first steps in forming a Police and Schools Partnership.
The aim of this partnership was to build strong relations between police and both students and schools. Also, the Crime Prevention Unit hopes to educate students about issues relating to police and crime so they are better prepared when the encounter these things in the future.

There has been a lot of
misinformation about the Vanuatu Strata Title Legislation, the Strata Title Act [Cap 266] of 2000. Firstly its needs to be clarified that the Strata Title Act has been designed specifically to include both subdivision of bare land and the more common position of providing separate titles within buildings.
This does not prevent the use of direct land subdivision of leasehold title in the traditional sense. Indeed in some cases a simple leasehold subdivision of land is all that is required.

No doctor in Lolowai Hospital

services not only in PENAMA province but islanders in the north who seek urgent medical due to the shorter distance travelled still lack the vital expertise of a doctor.

MP for Ambae, James Bule, questioned the absence of a qualified, licensed medical practitioner in the provincial hospital to serve the people in the three islands and when the Government will address the issue during the recent Question Open and Answer session in Parliament.

Japan grants Vt300m for Disaster Risk

Acting Head of State and current Speaker of Parliament Dunstan Hilton has thanked the Japanese Government through the newly appointed Japanese Ambassador to Vanuatu, Eiichi Oshima on behalf of the Vanuatu Government, for the Japanese Government grant totaling Vt300 million towards the improvement of Equipment for the Disaster Risk Management Project.

Prime Minister Sato Kilman and Ambassador Oshima signed and exchanged Notes on the Project in the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday evening.

Popular passenger shipping vessel eyes new ports

Vao and Atchin are two potential ports on Malekula the interisland passenger vessel Big Sista is considering to call in after the MALAMPA Provincial Government Council barred it from berthing at the Litzlitz wharf.

The decision to suspend the vessel’s services to the wharf unless it pays up (Vt15 000 for the one hour plus it takes to unload/load) maybe with the Council’s with good intentions but the people have and are feeling the brunt of it to date.

Wan Smolbag Youth drama group asks “Hu Nao I Rong?”

‘Hu Nao I Rong?’
(Who is to blame?), is the title of the Wan Smolbag Youth drama group’s new play. It opened for an invited audience last week and will be performed for schools and communities over the next two months.
Everyone present at the opening said it was a powerful piece, which had many emotional moments.
It tells the story of two children, Sam and his adopted sister Elena.

Vanuaaku Party in Port Vila Constituency on Saturday 21 April 2012 elected its first ever Regional Coordination Committee (RCC) Executive Committee at the Raon Haos Nakamal.

The Vanuaaku Party Head Office reported that VP Port Vila elected, Sam Graufiti, as the Chairman of the RCC.
