Re: Amendment to VAC Act

Dear Editor,

I refer to the letter to the editor in your issue 3530 for Saturday 21 April 2012 and wish to thank the coward who goes by the pseudonym “Man Ples” for standing up with his knees shaking and writing that letter.
He has a right to his opinions as a Ni-Vanuatu and I respect him for that.

May I remind quaking knees Man Ples that the Vanuatu Agriculture Collegewent through the phases of establishment, Land Owner Namele Leave lock out, learning curve, frequent changes of the board chairman (in its 5 years of existence VAC has had 5 different chairmen) to mention a few.

More roads protests on Efate, Santo, etc soon

Dear Editor,

Monday a week ago many students and teachers did not attend or were late to schools. Many employees were also late.
May be some expectant mothers delivered at home or some worsen scenario could have happened due to Efate land Transport Association stand-down.
Claiming the deteriorating road conditions were the cause of their costly vehicles damage, they demanded the government to fix the roads from their huge road tax payment. This is justifiable.

Many thanks to Paul FogelsBerger of Outrigger Ltd and Nasama Resort

Dear Editor,

The late Daniel Garae of Lombaha, Ambae was laid to rest on Saturday April 14 at his own village of Lowainasasa after inflicting severe gas burns to his body, particularly his face.
We’re grateful to our families and friends in Port Vila who have come to pay their last tributes to the late Daniel Garae and assisted us during this time of sorrow.

Gas policing by independent body needed

Dear Editor,

I write in response to the letter published Friday 20/04/12 in regards to the gas explosion at Pango. I also send my sympathies out to the victims of this incident.

While I totally agree with you in regards to OHS being sorely needed in Vanuatu and also in regards to your points about the Vanuatu Government needing to take responsibility for its own citizens, there is an industry you failed to mention in regards to blame for this incident.
The Gas Suppliers.

MI HAREM SE...

o Mi harem se a middle aged expat finally got the courage to have his prostate checked. He nervously dropped his dacks and the doctor put on his rubber glove and started probing. Then the doc politely asks the patient, “can you back up where I am touching please.” The patient then made the error of trying to be smart by replying, “only if you tell me you love me.” Whereupon the doctor doing the rectal examination started laughing. The last thing you want when a doctor is checking your prostate is to make him laugh.

Amendment to VAC

Dear Editor,

I very much enjoyed the debate on the amendment to the VAC Act as reported by your paper.
Firstly, I must say that except for MP Ralph Regenvanu, the majority of other MPs were just making useless noises since VAC has existed well before the current government.

I also wish to both congratulate and deride Hon Minister Ngwango for taking the initiative that he took.
Firstly may I say with due respect that MPs Natapei, Natuman, and Molisa were only doing their duty as opposition MPs but that does not mean that their arguments were in the interest of VAC at all.

Malapoa College deputy assaulted

Dear Editor,

The Vanuatu Police Force and the chiefs must shoulder the blame over the cowardly assault on the deputy principal of Malapoa College.
The groups of thugs there along Malapoa Road are well known to Police. They call themselves the TRK...hell knows what this means. This is not the first incident involving the TRKs. Police have had a number of reports against members of the group during the past years until the recent times. They even know names of members of the group by heart.

Is OHS important to our working environment?

Dear Editor,

INIK Co-op operating at 100% capacity

These days the Chairman of INIK Co-op Sam Mareawa is looking somewhat thinner than normal
Some days I don’t eat because we are so busy, was Sam’s comments when asked why he is looking a bit worse for wear.
Every day my phone rings for coffee seedlings, he says
My day starts at 4.30 every morning and sometimes I am not home until after 9 at night
“When are you coming to see us and deliver our new plants and show us how to be a coffee farmer with INIK Co-op”,  is the all too common phone calls on Sam’s phone these days
