Overlooked and ripped off – the small domestic consumers of Unelco power and water who don’t have meters

While Unelco and the Utilities Regulatory Authority again go head to head, this time over prepaid electricity meters, a significant sector of the small domestic consumers’ (SDC’s) market at which the prepaid meter campaign is targeted, is being overlooked.
This sector of the market doesn’t show up on Unelco’s connection records because they are not, themselves, connected to either electricity or water. Rather they obtain these essential commodities via the on selling of them by landlords.

Ministers’ wives visit China

The spouses of eight Vanuatu Government Ministers and the Speaker of Parliament visited China early April as part of a friendship building effort between the two countries.

The delegation, led by Mrs Rosina Hilton, wife of the speaker of parliament, Dunstan Hilton, left after the celebration in Port Vila marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Vanuatu and China on March 26 to join the same event in Beijing.

AVL former CEO arrested

Independent reliable sources not far from the Fraud Investigation Unit have confirmed the arrest of former Chief Executive Officer of Airports Vanuatu Limited, Joewangeh on April 12.

The sources said he was arrested on suspicion of obtaining money by false and misleading statement and theft, under the Penal Code Act Cap 135.
He appeared in court yesterday and was remanded in custody to reappear in court on April 27.

After reading the recent Daily Post header, “Vanuatu loses footing in tourist destination ratings”, I couldn’t help to sit back and see this number 1 dollar earner for my beloved country head to the drains.

New Luganville mini casino soo

A mini casino in Luganville will shortly open its services to the locals.
It targets tourists who are escaping to the northern town for a better place to explore. The club will open its first service which is the selling of tap beer (Tusker) stage one when the opening will be announced on Saturday next week.

The building is taking shape and just needs few additional inputs before the stage one comes in.
Other poker machines will be sent later after this first opening in Australia when a big official opening will again commence.

Positive camp program shapes youth: Sihos

The main speaker for the combined scout camp of Luganville, Elizabeth Sihos, said that the previous Easter camp has shaped a lot of youths to become good Vanuatu ambassadors.
The Luganville combined Scout 2012 camp was held at Bombua beach where over 60 participants focused on the theme “sharing skills together”.
Sihos was invited to talk on Sunday. She was chosen as the main speaker on Sunday as an example that women were the first to see the resurrection of Jesus.

Political seminar conducted in Luganville

A two days Political Leadership seminar that was conducted by Antoine Pikoune and funded by Sanma Rural MP Samsen Sam on economics, social and policy has cleared and put an advanced idea in front for voters to choose their right leaders before the national election.
The political leadership seminar was the first of its kind to be conducted in Sanma province and particularly Luganville. Over 50 participants around Sanma Province attend the seminar.

Political field workers were the targeted groups that were there to listen to the seminar.
