In the first ever win of the football season, Academy Football Club, Class of 2012 wrote a new chapter on Saturday as it shook off the hoodoo on a gallant effort to down one of Port Vila Football Association's powerhouses, Spirit 08 by 3-2, in a thrilling encounter.

It was one of those clashes that had the strong crowd not only edgy, but vocal throughout the match as they witnessed five beautiful goals scored.

Peaceful demonstration refused

The Government has refused to issue a permit for a peaceful demonstration today in Port Vila in relation to the West Papuan cause.

This application was lodged by the Vanuatu Free West Papua Association.

However, supporters of a free West Papua are advised by organisers that there will still be activities at Seaside Showground.

Activities will include a panel discussion and cultural performances.

This event will be taking place with the commemoration of Lini Day.

‘Frank’ high level dialogue announced with Vanuatu’s largest donor

The government of Vanuatu and Government of Australia have announced a ‘regular and frank’ high-level dialogue between Prime Minister (PM) Sato Kilman and Australian High Commissioner Jeff Roach starting February 28.

Australia stands as Vanuatu’s largest donor, with an aid program of around Vt7 billion annually injected to deliver better education, health, economic governance, infrastructure and justice for the people throughout Vanuatu.

Man sentenced to two years imprisonment for death of Tongoan

A man has been sentenced to two years imprisonment term by the Supreme Court for the death of late Roy Gilbert of Tongoa.

Jerome Moli of Malo was found guilty beyond reasonable doubt for the death of late Gilbert Roy in September 2011.

At the sentencing Friday last week Judge Oliver Saksak stated “The defence counsel and your pre-sentence report raised the point of self defence, the evidence is clear.

“Despite the deceased making a threatening approach with abusive language, he never threw any punches.

Herominly to contest the 2012 elections under VRP

Vanuatu Republican Party’s (VRP) Port Vila Region last Saturday announced Mr Marco Herominly as its Candidate to contest the 2012 General Election in Port Vila.

National Coordinator of Vanuatu Republican Party, Mr Ronald Sandy confirmed that out of the three candidates vying to contest the elections under the banner of VRP, Mr Herominly won the right to contest the 2012 election under the VRP ticket.

“Of a total of 179 Port Vila regional presidents, 126 voted for Herominly, 35 for Alick Noel and 18 supporting chief Morris Timataso,” reported Sandy.

SDA community helps clean Lenakel Town

The Seventh Day Adventist community on the island of Tanna undertook a cleanup of Lenakel Town as part of their practical training in a one-week health awareness.

This was done under the coordination and direction of SDA Mission Health Director, Dr Rinnie, with the assistance of the health coordinators of the 11 organised SDA churches on Tanna.

The participants spend Thursday last week to clean inside the municipal boundary as well as to Tafea Coop, which is now officially outside the municipal boundary.
