Revelation of inconsistency and madness

Dear Editor,

It is time lovers of the beauty of Symmetry and axiom bring certain inconsistency and madness into light.

Some MPs had voted against WTO two months ago and now rejoin the government.

Let's assume they had consulted their voters on their stand then and now.

How did MPs and their voters decided then and now?
How would WTO view this? Wouldn't this, reveal lack of knowledge of this subject or lack of seriousness or a sign of insanity to WTO driving it to penalize Vanuatu?
My long time fear has now come to the surface.

Re: Matevulu College

Dear Editor,

Allow me space to comment on the above issue.

I definitely support the recommendations made by the previous writer. I believe Matevulu College should have a better Administrator, who is capable to run the affairs of the College.

Not someone who spends official hours marking papers for another institution to increase the size of their pockets.

It appears that the education authorities are turning a blind eye on this issue.

Re: Poor Matevulu performance

Dear Editor,

I am one of the first intakes of Matevulu College in 1983 and my heart breaks when i see/hear Matevulu Colleges academic achievement in 2011 especially for the Yr10 students.

My child is a victim of this very poor/bad administration and its underperforming teachers, who could not make it to Yr12 in any secondary schools in Vanuatu, though he's a very bright student when he was in primary school, still he could not make it at Matevulu College.

Land slide at Lolowai

A senior Environment Officer on a truck to catch a ship at the wharf at Lolowai in North East Ambae could see the ship at anchor but he missed the vessel all the same because of a bad landslide on the slope leading down into the harbour.

The vehicle he was on had to waste another half an hour on a detour via Longana Airport and when it arrived at the wharf the vessel had already left.

TVET Centre supporting local contractors

The Australian Government funded TVET (Technical and Vocational Education Training) Centre has worked closely with the Public Works Department (PWD) in Malampa Province to initiate business management training for island-based contractors from 23 to 27 January 2012.

The training was a collaboration between two Australian Government funded programs, the TVET Program and the Transport Sector Support Program (VTSSP) as well as the Vanuatu Government’s Public Works Department.

Ambae PWD Vt13 million work untendered

The hiring of a local company’s equipment by the Public Works Department (PWD) to complete the road on West Ambae worth Vt13, 770, 000 of the tax payers’ money did not go through the Tenders Board.

Chairman of the Central Tenders Board, Mr Ignace Liatlatmal revealed to Daily Post in an exclusive interview yesterday that two of his officers have been to Santo and Ambae and are compiling a public report on the disturbing matter.

Majority of Chinese investors are "citizen"

Walk into any Chinese shop in town and ask whether they are Vanuatu citizens and you will likely be surprised if they show you a copy of their Vanuatu citizenship certificate.

This means Chinese can now venture into kava bars businesses and own taxis and buses which are restricted only for ni-Vanuatu, yet they do not even speak Bislama and have not even lived in Vanuatu for 10 years – a statutory requirement.

First waste characterization study in Luganville

Santo News

Back in April 2011 Vanuatu adopted its first National Waste Management Strategy 2011 to 2016 in line with the Pacific Regional Solid Waste Management Plan to help achieve the National goals.

To have a plan adopted into legislation is essential in order to gain funding and permission to develop waste management initiatives such as composting and recycling methods.

In Luganville, there is one rubbish truck owned by the Council to service an urban population of approximately 12,000.

Labour focuses on foreign workers

Commissioner of Labour, Lionel Kaluat, has revealed the appointment of four Inspectors to concentrate on strengthening compliance and implementation of existing Labour laws.

“We want to put more emphasis on tracking down, as much as possible foreign workers working in a company,” he said.

“One of the areas we are looking at is job creation in the domestic market, in order to facilitate job creation we need to look at the best way to control and manage our Reserve Occupations, managed under the Labour Work Permit Act.
