Japheth’s experience of living, working in China

Harry Japheth of White Sands in Tanna left the country in 1997 to study Chinese Language and Culture at Beijing University. He completed his studies in 2001 but felt that four years was not enough. China is a gigantic country and to understand the people and their culture, you must go into their society and live among them. In this exclusive interview with our Senior Reporter Len Garae, he says he made his own decision to stay on in China to live and learn among the Chinese.
What have you found out about China?

Innocent victims

InsideViewpoint

The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary provides a number of definitions of the words innocent, victim and crime. In this column, the word ‘innocent’ will be taken to mean ‘suffering harm…because of a crime…although not directly involved in it’, ‘victim’ refers to ‘a person who has been injured as the result of a crime…’, and the word ‘crime’ will be taken to mean ‘an act that you think is immoral or is a big mistake’.These words apply specifically here to the conditions surrounding the many children who will resume schooling next week.

MI HAREM SE...

o  Mi harem se Breakas have been very low key on promotion for the six gorgeous Brisbane Bronco's cheerleaders who arrived yesterday for a photo shoot. They will be at Voodoo's at 9-30pm tonight for some madness and mayhem. Local studs need not bother as they are used to rugby players and a lot of attention. Good promo for Breakas and the Hilton Hotel chain on their major development past Whitesands. Silip!

Re: Port Vila MPs to lose NC voters

Dear Editor,

Your above article of 7/2/12 from which Minister Wells intends for Vanuatu citizens in NC to vote to their Constituencies of origin (CO) instead of Vila, I don't think the given reason is convincing.

The past governments have tried both options, voting to their CO and Vila. What have these voters benefited from, a community hall, a community land etc sponsored by MPs? How did they make it there in the first place? What have our government been doing for them?

Will the 2012 general elections be transparent?

According to the Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary, transparent means (a) allowing light to pass through so that objects behind can be seen clearly; (b) about which there can be no doubt, unmistakable.

It can be stated that the introduction of a transparent ballot box could lead to the assumption that the electoral office and the Electoral Commission have never trusted the primitive wooden boxes that were used in our elections since 1979. If that assumption is true then all elections conducted since 1979 may have never been transparent.

In any war, the first casualty is common sense, and the second is free and open discussion.

Last Saturday my article was read and then an order was put out by the Airline to not allow any freight to be moved for myself or my business or those who work for me…Period. I am still awaiting this in writing, guess they are very busy.
