Premier leaders Tafea FC elects new Executive

Football

Tafea Football Club players took matters into their hands last weekend to elect a new Executive Committee to run the champion Club for the next 2 years.

A meeting called by the players took place at Chief Silas’s Nakamal at Blacksands on Saturday 28 January was able to go ahead despite pressure from former president who even send the police over to stop the meeting. The meeting which brought together players and supporters was able to elect George Iapson as President of Tafea FC.

We cannot know the future because there are so many possible futures.  But today I will describe one future for rural Vanuatu, Vanuatu 2027.

TVET Centre supporting local contractors

The Australian Government funded TVET (Technical and Vocational Education Training) Centre has worked closely with the Public Works Department (PWD) in Malampa Province to initiate business management training for island-based contractors from 23 to 27 January 2012.

The training was a collaboration between two Australian Government funded programs, the TVET Program and the Transport Sector Support Program (VTSSP) as well as the Vanuatu Government’s Public Works Department.

Proposed Melanesian economic partnership

A group of Kanaky investors from New Caledonia are calling on the leaders, and the people of Melanesia, to pull their resources together in a bid to withstand what they described as today’s world of economic and social crisis.

The group led by Mr Marc Homou, President of a Private Law Group known as GDPL have been in Port Vila since last week.

They called on government, private sector and ni-Vanuatu individuals and the Melanesian Spearhead Group officials to explain the purpose of their visit as well as looking at potential investment opportunities in Vanuatu.

Land slide at Lolowai

A senior Environment Officer on a truck to catch a ship at the wharf at Lolowai in North East Ambae could see the ship at anchor but he missed the vessel all the same because of a bad landslide on the slope leading down into the harbour.

The vehicle he was on had to waste another half an hour on a detour via Longana Airport and when it arrived at the wharf the vessel had already left.

MOA connects four Institutions

“We in Vanuatu Customs need to connect with Immigration, Police, Quarantine and all other agencies that work together with a similar interest in the movement of people and goods. Customs must connect and people must connect to ensure a smooth flow, a safe flow and a lawful flow of goods and people and their security across our borders”.

Review of Foreign Service Act 75% complete

The bulk of work on the Review of Vanuatu’s Foreign Service Act is more than halfway through-75% completed.

Subsequent to the review the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) will develop a Foreign Services Staff Manual, the legislative and administrative policies are important mechanisms the ministry needed to put in place to bring about orderly administration in Vanuatu’s Foreign Service.

VIT announces new schedule

The Vanuatu Institute of Technology’s (VIT’s) principal, Kalpeo Kalpat has announced that the school will be transitioning from a trimester scheduling process to a semester schedule.

The change comes for the well established school which was founded in the British and French Colonial Administration, before Vanuatu gained Independence.

Principal Kalpat said: “VIT is continually searching for approaches to ensure the best possible learning experience for our student.
