Expelled MP says Korman no longer VRP President

Despite being expelled from parliament yesterday morning by Speaker Maxime Carlot Korman, the Santo Rural MP and Minister of Education Marcellino Pipite advised schools around the country and the people of Vanuatu that he is still a State Minister and maintains his portfolio as Minister of Education.
“It is important for the population of Vanuatu to know that the Speaker has suspended me from parliament but not from my position as a State minister hence I am still Minister for Education in this country,” Pipite told local media from his office yesterday afternoon.

La Piste Bleue

Dear Editor,

After completing the Piste Bleue 2011 I must congratulate UNELCO on yet another well-organised event.

I have completed almost all of the runs since its inception in 1996 and consider it to be a fine example of community spirit in that it involves the young and old, male and female, Ni-Vanuatu and expats alike all for an entry fee of only Vt 200 (perhaps the only Unelco cost that has not changed in 16 years?).

Immigration cost for tourists on pleasure yachts

Dear Editor,

We want to reiterate the concern expressed here concerning Immigration charges levied on tourists arriving in Vanuatu by pleasure yacht.
These costs have escalated significantly in recent years and, taken in sum with the high cost of just about everything else in Vanuatu, are becoming a deterrent to yachts wanting to visit Vanuatu.

The typical cruising yacht visiting Vanuatu is a married couple on a small sailing boat, cruising on a small budget derived from years of savings.

Move to reinstate Tasso clearly shows politics in NISCOL: Solomon

Santo News

The move by NISCOL to reinstate husband of Deputy Mayor, Elisabeth Tasso, soon after she changed allegiance to join the Union of Moderate Parties (UMP) clearly revealed UMP’s position in the NISCOL company and how much influence they have in the company although they are claiming that the company is owned by the shareholders of the company.

This was the view of a politician and political observer, Paul Solomon, when he visited Daily Post recently to raise his concern.
