More Solomon Islands nurses to arrive next month

Tw e n ty Fi v e So l o m o n Islands nurses are expected to arrive in Port Vila next month to serve at various medical and health centers throughout the country.

The first four Solomon Islands nurses arrived in Vanuatu early this year through collaboration of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.

Digicel takes the Business House League Grand Final

Digicel Vanuatu Cricket Team has won the Business House League Grand Final!  The final, played on Wednesday 22nd June, was won against AVL (Airports Vanuatu Ltd.) with 108 points to 78.  The Digicel team made the League Final by beating  NBV (National Bank of Vanuatu) in the semi-final the previous day with a score of 98 points versus  79.

Vanuatu to take part in the Olympic Games Beach Volleyball test event

Vanuatu Beach Volleyball duo Elwin Miller and Linline Matauatu are fortunate enough to be part in the 2012 Olympic Games Beach Volleyball test event, which will run from August 9-14, will be the first time an international beach volleyball tournament will be staged in the U.K. capital and will mark just under one year before the Olympic tournament begins.

This event is critical to test not only technical and functional aspects of the Beach Volleyball tournaments at the 2012 Olympic Games in London in the same location, but also to attract media attention to beach volleyball.

Luganville teachers trained as scorers and umpires

On Tuesday 21 June 2011, eight(8) teachers from schools around Luganville and the Provincial Cricket Association Development Officer attended a one day basic scoring and umpiring workshop conducted by Vanuatu Cricket Association’s (VCA) General Manager, Pierre Chilia.

The objective of the workshop is to teach the participants the basics of scoring and umpiring so they can officiate in the first ever Inter-schools Cricket Tournament which commenced last week on Wednesday 22 June 2011 at Unity Park Luganville.

The Minister of Justice during his visit to Sanma Province said “graon mo jastis” is the key to having a better life.

Regenvanu stated this to the people at Unity Park when he launched his political party Friday.

He said these two components of having a good judiciary system and regaining of customary lands which is identity of the people is the basis of having a good life and everyone needs to be conscious about this.

He said he believes most of the problems are affecting the communities today because there is lack of these two components in the system.

This has been clearly revealed when the youths of the Pump Station and Sarakata area decided to host a victory ceremony for the young VP councilor representing them in the council at their own expenses and invited the whole municipal councilors and mayor to show them that they were solely behind the wind of change this season and will be right behind to support the work of these councilors for the betterment of the northern town.

After 30 years Seafarers still not recognised by govt: Wilson

Speaking on the International Seafarers’ Day on Sunday, ship owner Matai Wilson was very blunt about how the government after 30 years of independence still hasn’t made much effort in recognising the work of seafarers in the country today.

Matai Wilson who is the son of the President of the Shipping Association on Santo challenged the government stating that it did not recognize the ship owners and did not make any effort in developing the wharf condition.
