THE NANNY STATE

Junkets Doyle. The Lord High Waffle mongerer, of Burgnourne has discovered and solved one of the southlands most dangerous issues and there aren’t even any votes in the deal. The great Waffle cart saga had begun. Council had shut it down claiming it was an obstruction to Burgnournian train passengers coming out of the nearby Burgnournians subway because they were lining up to by the evil waffles.. To his chagrin the burgers of the southland voiced their disapproval, via talk back radio, of Junket’s closure of the evil “Waffleman” or at least his waffle cart.

Eratap land owners suing Govt to ensure their control of their lands

Ten Eratap families expect to have the government in court on contempt charges as soon as the present constitutional cases are completed.

They have proved their ownership of the Bouffa / Bellevue land in court in a number of Efate Island Court hearings going back as far as 1995. The most recent is dated 23 December 2010.

One hundred percent compost-able reasons NOT to burn

bjskane@vanuatu.com.vu

If ever anyone needed convincing that Efate’s rubbish is at least 70% biodegradable, these pictures of market house rubbish taken mid morning last Saturday speak louder than a thousand words.

Mountains of off cast green vegetable leaves, fruit past its use by date, coconut husks and baskets – every bit of it (except the odd plastic bag that is easily removed or banned before it gets to the heap) capable of being mulched to turn into good quality soil and fertilizer.

Instead it is being loaded into the Municipal truk blong doti to be taken to Etas and dumped as landfill.

One and two vatu coins still legal - everywhere in Vanuatu

“Have you been a victim of the rip off of Bon Marche?” a customer of theirs e-mailed the other day. “What in the hell are they up to?” she fumed, “They slug us for everything then don’t give us our proper change. The horrid one and two vatu coins are still legal tender but they refuse to give them to us. Other shops give us the right change - who do they [ABM] think they are to overcharge? I know it’s not much but as they say, these small amounts add up.”

Aye, they do indeed.

Categorizing solid waste

Last week in Port Vila, from May 23 to 27, 13 participants from the departments of Environmental Protection and Conservation, Port Vila Municipal Council, Sanma Provincial Government, Tafea Provincial Government, and students from USP and Malapoa Collage attended an important training for Trainers and Practitioners of Solid Waste Characterization Study (SWCS) jointly organised by the Department of Environment & Conservation and JICA.

Benefits first, people last

VANGO NEWS: Political downplay has now given Vanuatu population enough evidence that our leaders weigh their benefits more than the interests of their people

The cries of the civil societies, the grassroots and the rural communities and the general public are heard everywhere.

The sound of the talk back shows on the national radio stations, the concerns in the “Letters to the Editor” and the news articles that have been read all over the nation portraying and applauding the must for the government to consider the interest of the citizens, have been pushed into the pockets of our political leaders with a zip that has a lock that only each individual political leaders has the right when to open it or to keep it closed for ever.
