Excessive mobile use may lead to cancer: WHO

“Also no-one actually has any clear idea about how mobile phone radiation could affect the risk of cancer.”

No clear answer
The decision comes after a study published last year which looked at almost 13,000 mobile phone users over 10 years found no clear answer on whether the mobile devices cause brain tumours.

The decision has been keenly awaited by mobile phone companies and by campaign groups who have raised concerns about whether the phones might be harmful to health.

President accepts Korean Ambassador’s Credentials

President Iolu Johnson Abbil has welcomed the Ambassador Extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Vanuatu, Whie-Jin Lee, when he presented his Credentials at the State House yesterday morning.

The Ambassador thanked the President for his warm welcome and conveyed to “Your Excellency President Lee Myung-bak’s best regards and acknowledgement for this auspicious occasion”.

Penama Foreign policy consultation ends

A three-day Penama Foreign Policy Consultation program organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ended Wednesday this week on Ambae
The consultation program was organised at the PENAMA provincial headquarter in Saratamata.

High ranking officials within the Department of Foreign Affairs including the Director, Mr Kalfau Kaloris have teamed up with community leaders of Ambae, Maewo and Pentecost for the consultation program.

Ohlen resident says road condition same for last 15 years

A resident of Ohlen has come forward to state his concern that roads in the whole of Ohlen areas of Port Vila have never been properly or professionally improved over the past 15 years.

John Sisi said there has never been a proper improvement on the roads for a long time.

“I have lived there for over 15 years and the roads are just getting worse.

“I own a number of vehicles and I pay road taxes and other taxes to the national government but, I never see a proper or professional work done on the roads at Ohlen.

The Department of Environmental Protection and Conservation has announced an extension of one more month to the end of this month to allow the public of Port Vila and rural Efate to comment on the proposed setting up of a giant incinerator at Number 2 Lagoon.

A company called Pacific Waste Solution is ready to set up the Incinerator. An initial Environmental Impact Assessment Report has already been done.
Department of Environmental Protection and Conservation EIA Officer Reedly Tari said the company has chosen a site and Environmental Officers made the initial assessment.

UMP secures 1095 votes in Luganville election

The Union of Moderate Parties which failed to win a seat in the 2007 Luganville Municipal Elections has returned strongly in Monday’s elections, winning 4 of the 13 seats that went up for grabs.

UMP has won a seat in all the four wards in the Luganville Municipal Election according to the official results published by the Electoral Commission through Radio Vanuatu Wednesday before lunch time.

Kathy says NISCOL management changed, confirms child died at hospital

Government Inspector and member of the Commission of Inquiry into NISCOL, Leong Kathy has said he will make sure the people responsible face legal consequences over misleading information that a child died outside the NISCOL gate during the police operation last week.

Reports confirmed a child died that Friday but not in the area of NISCOL. The child died at the Northern District Hospital and the deceased is the child of Kathy’s niece.
