Patient dies waiting for heart surgery

They say a picture says a thousand words and I cannot agree more.

Unfortunately, I’ve seen one too many of the same picture and it’s rapidly becoming a depressing reality.

Many of the Ni-Vanuatu patients attending our public health system are too familiar with doctors telling them they have some disease so foreign to them but we don’t have proper tests and treatment in Vanuatu. The patients then leave the health facility with more worries than when they arrived. It makes me wonder if sometimes the honesty is just too much.

The control of ticks in dogs

Sam’s Animal Welfare Association

Ticks are a particularly difficult group of parasites to control and a lot of chemicals that are good at controlling fleas are not very good at controlling ticks. Luckily here in Vanuatu we have only one type of tick, the brown dog tick or Rhipicephalus sanguineus.

The brown dog tick can be pulled of the dog easily without risk to the dog. Those of you who have lived on the east coast of Australia will have had some experience with the paralysis tick, we are very fortunate not to have it here thanks to strong Quarantine measures.

Historic impact statement gives voice to crime victims

For the first time ever the Vanuatu Police Force (VPF) has introduced a Victim Impact Statement process to assist victims of crime through their ordeal and give victims actual involvement in the process of the sentencing of offenders.

“We hope that it will assist in the emotional recovery from the crime that has been committed upon the victim.

String band vulgarism unacceptable: Chief

A concerned Motalava Chief has raised his people’s disappointment over a song sung by a popular local string band group which he said has lyrics containing swear words in his native language.

He said it is definitely unknown to most of the band's fans that the one of their famous songs contain very rude verses although many including children have been singing along to the song.

Chief Jacob said the song was sung by Dausake String Band from Nguna whose recent releases have gained them popularity not only in the string band crazy North Efate but the whole country.
