Ecole Publique re-opens

Ecole Public Centreville Secondary, Primary and Kindy classes resumed Wednesday morning after a one-day closure on Tuesday.

The school was closed on Tuesday because the school fund was frozen by the Finance Officer following an issue involving an alleged removal of the school bursar.

The classes resumed yesterday morning, despite the school fund still frozen with the Finance Officer still on Malekula, according to the School Council President Eloise Leye.

“We met the SHEFA PEO on Tuesday and sought intervention also from the Ministry of Education.

105 graduate from APTC

One hundred and five students are ready to join the work force in different sectors after graduating this week from the Australia-Pacific Technical College (APTC).

Some received diplomas while others certificates in different areas including carpentry, children’s services, electrotechnology system electrician, engineering-mechanical trade, hairdressing, hospitality, refrigeration and air condition, and training and assessment.

This year’s graduation held at the Le Lagoon Hotel marked the 7th for the Australia-Pacific College APTC after opening its doors in Vanuatu in 2007.

Whetney proves critics wrong

Solomon Islands rising football star Jack Whetney’s Turkish agent has slammed false reports published by the Oceania Football Federation (OFC) and local newspaper Island Sun stating the young lad has failed his trials in Turkey.

Speaking to the Solomon Star from Turkey over the weekend, Whetney’s agent Kaan Kandemir said the reports painted a wrong picture that could jeopardise Wetney’s future.

OFC as well as Island Sun reportedly published an article last week stating that Whetney had failed to make it through the Turkish Football league.

The recently established Vanuatu Rugby League has been handed a massive boost with the confirmation that current Melbourne Storm star Justin O’Neill has pledged his allegiance to represent Vanuatu in international competition.

The NRL is the major rugby league competition in the world and is watched my millions of people weekly and Melbourne Storm are regarded as one the most powerful clubs within the competition. Vt3 million saved since PVMC suspension

Three months from the suspension of its 14 municipal councillors, the Port Vila Municipality Administration under Commissioner Olga Tariweu announced the Council made savings totaling Vt3,250,000.

This information was revealed by Clerk Toco Mara to Minister of Internal Affairs George Wells and his delegation, Director of provincial Affairs Cherol Ala, Commissioner Tariweu and Municipal Staff Wednesday afternoon at the Municipal Town Hall.

Lini hails WTO accession as “win win situation”

Vanuatu, a Least Developed Country according to United Nations criteria, could become the World Trade Organisation’s 154th member if it ratifies the deal before 26 April 2012.

The General Council of the WTO on Wednesday cleared the way for the WTO accession of Vanuatu.

Vanuatu Deputy Prime Minister Ham Lini, who recently was in the WTO headquarter in Geneva, Switzerland has described the deal as a “win win situation.”
If Vanuatu ratifies the deal by 26 April it would become a WTO member 30 days after the ratification.

Hekari to rely on local talent

Hekari United’s campaign for the O-League has hit the snag following the unavailability of its foreign players for its opening match against Amicale of Vanuatu this weekend.

However, Hekari franchise owner John Kapi Natto last night said it would be a testing time for local PNG players.

The club would be calling on local O-League campaigners in David Muta, Andrew Lepani, Eric Komeng, Samuel Kini, Neil Hans and Ian Yanum to step up against the Vanuatu champions.

The inclusion of Kema Jack and Raymond Gunemba has added to Hekari’s offensive ability.
