France through its Pacific Fund has again agreed to inject funds into the realization of the Tanna Cultural Center that is scheduled to open next July 2010.
In order to support this project based in Lenakel, initially the Pacific Fund agreed to fund 15000 Euros around 2,150,000 vatus in 2008 to begin the first phase of the project.

On Friday in Port Vila a recent funding agreement signed between Mrs Francoise Maylie, Ambassador of France to Vanuatu and Mr Marcellin Abong, Director of the Vanuatu Cultural Center (VKS) now means a further same amount is to be injected into the second phase.
In front of Chiefs from Tanna and the Representative of Lenakel Council of Chiefs Joseph Kapere, the signing of the agreement by the Vanuatu Cultural Center now enforces the contribution of France to the project to 30,000 Euros around 4,300 000 vatus.
The Director for the Vanuatu Kaljoral Senta (VKS) said the programme consists in the construction that is nearly completed of the first building dedicated to the library, conference room and in the construction of another building dedicated to a show room to display the contemporary TAFEA province artists’ works.
Ambassador Maylie confirmed that the project amounts to 130 000 Euros around 18 600 000 vatus.
Daily Post was also informed that the project is equally supported by other partners including the European Union, AusAID, the Christensen Fund and the CREDO (Oceania Research and Documentation Centre based in France).
The land of where the project is located is been given by the Nikoletan Council of Chiefs.
The Pacific Fund has been funding projects that involves at least one of the French Territories with an aim to encourage regional integration.
