NUP re-elected candidate and interim Trade Minister James Bule of East Ambae has joined Provincial Leaders and community and custom chiefs of Ambae and in particular East Ambae, to call on Ambaean investors and public servant imminent retirees in Port Vila to return home and invest their savings in the island.

The historic call of its kind comes on the heels of pictures showing the renovation of Longana Airfield into a modern tarsealed airport complete with a modern parking lot and a terminal building.

The project is funded by the US Millennium Challenge Fund, which Vanuatu had qualified for among the selected few recipient countries worldwide.

A company from New Zealand with the name “Highway Stabiliser” written on the machines, which has international standing in building modern airports has made incredible headway towards completing the runway.

The main reason for singling out Longana

Airfield to benefit from the Fund is that it floods when it rains while air traffic from the island is always busy.

It remains to be seen as to how the call for Ambae sons and daughters to return home is out but like most Ambaeans, they will most likely wait and see until one or two of them react and then the rest may do the same.

Two of the most vital services that are lacking at the airfield at present are a restaurant or takeaway facility where the hungry public can buy something to eat while they wait for their flights and a proper toilet.
